No matter how you look at it, today’s world is bathed in green – from hybrid cars, to recycled paper products, organic farming and energy-saving light bulbs. A movement that started among consumers now makes business sense as well. Service providers, vendors and pundits alike are talking “green”, but what does it mean for today’s telecom carrier?
This session will present carriers with a series of steps for creating a smaller energy footprint, starting with the consolidation of infrastructure at the edge of the network. A consolidated architecture requires less real estate, heating/cooling, power and management than a distributed network. By consolidating networking equipment onto a single unified IP-based network, operators will use approximately 50 percent less energy and significantly green their operations. Carriers will learn how green operations at the edge will put the power pig on a diet and feed the bottom line.
