As economic and environmental pressures become increasingly challenging for network managers, vendors are quick to jump on the bandwagon and tout their products as ‘green.’ Making it easier for them to sell to data center managers is the recent research conducted by IDC and others illustrating that power and cooling costs are among the top three areas of IT spending in data centers worldwide, amounting to over $50BN annually.

While IT managers should be consciously promoting green initiatives – for the sake of the environment and their ROI – there is no proven and industry accepted way to validate the ‘green’ claims made by vendors. So how can IT fight the recent ‘greenwashing’ trend and ensure the equipment they purchase and install is truly energy efficient? Solutions that provide hard numbers and actionable data on key green performance metrics are the only answer to combating these false green claims.

Ixia will lead a discussion that will illustrate how network managers can properly judge whether the products they invest in will benefit both their data centers and the environment.
