Associated with the increasing use of video for consumer IPTV and business collaboration is the growing need for efficient and reliable delivery of P2MP video traffic over MPLS/IP networks, requiring advanced signaling and traffic management capabilities. In addition to providing an overview of the key Label Switched Multicast (LSM) technology components, this presentation covers the different types of video; production, consumer, and enterprise video. MPLS/IP network transport requirements for each type of video are discussed and specific LSM technology options to address these transport requirements are presented. As part of the LSM technology overview, a comparison between mLDP and RSVP/TE signaling for P2MP MPLS connectivity is provided. In addition, specific MPLS/IP deployment scenarios are isussed for support of the various types of video, including fixed video contribution, primary video distribution, and IP multicast VPN networks.
