Bio

Patrick Phelan joined to Telecommunication Software and Systems Group (TSSG) at the Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT), were he is currently Senior Engineer leading the technical work of the IST project 4WARD. This work has lead to the deployment of a virtual network infrastructure that allows for the dynamic configuration of network stacks. Previous to TSSG, Patrick worked for over 10 years in Sun Microsystems, QNX and Openet Telecom as a senior engineer and technical consultant. It was in these roles that Patrick designed, implemented and managed deployment of convergent mediation solutions for tier one and two operators (Verizon, AT&T Wireless, Orange, OTENet, Esat) that bridged both legacy telephony services and next generation services. In his role as technical consultant at Openet, Patrick was involved in proof of concept projects with various partners (Cisco, Ericsson, P-Cube) which explored the metering and charging of next generation services in operator test beds. One of these projects (Prepaid 3G Content Services) was displayed on the Cisco stand at 3GSM. Prior to this Patrick was a senior software network device driver engineer (QNX Real-time Operating Systems) and Kernel Device Driver Engineer (Sun Microsystems Flagship Unix Operating System - Solaris).
